Lhasa Spring: Advocating for Tibet in the Chinese-Speaking World
A Tibetan-Chinese Dialogue and Media Platform
Lhasa Spring is an independent media and advocacy platform run by Chinese Youth Stand for Tibet (华语青年挺藏会), a network of Chinese-language advocates from various ethnic groups, Tibetans, journalists, and activists. We bridge the information gap between Chinese-speaking communities and Tibetans by publishing fact-checks, explainers, and anchor reports in Simplified Chinese and English that reach readers even inside China’s firewall. We don’t speak for Tibetans; we make Tibetan voices understandable to Chinese audiences who have rarely had the chance to hear Tibetan inner voices.
Why Chinese?
Chinese is not our identity. It is our tool.
Those who oppress Tibetans speak Chinese. Those who attack Tibetans online use Chinese. And the millions who still believe Tibetans were all “serfs” read Chinese too. The Tibet issue will never be truly resolved until the narrative in the Chinese-speaking world changes, and until Tibet gains more supporters among Chinese speakers.
What We Do?
Advocating for Tibet in the Chinese-speaking world.
Through this platform, we provide insights into Tibet’s rich cultural heritage, unique ecology, complex history, political and economic dynamics, and human rights conditions.
1. Information Freedom: News and Media. We publish anchor reports and newsletters in Chinese, providing the first credible reference points on Tibetan stories long ignored or censored.
2. Event planning: Sino-Tibetan Dialogues (藏汉交流). We bring Chinese speakers and Tibetans together face to face, from campuses to Tibetan community centers, from public libraries to cinemas.
3. Public Education: Fact-checks and Explainers. We dismantle state myths like the “serf” narrative and explain what Beijing hides, from Tibetan democracy in exile to life under surveillance.
4. Human Rights: Political Prisoner Solidarity. We document Tibetan political prisoners and organize solidarity actions, from postcard campaigns to advocacy for those detained by the Chinese Communist Party.
Our Reach
Our newsletters and posts reach readers inside China despite the Great Firewall, from Beijing and Guangzhou to Inner Mongolia, Hong Kong, Sichuan, Qinghai, and Tibet itself. Our largest readership is in Lanzhou, near the border between Amdo and inland China. These readers show genuine curiosity about Tibet, and many people have simply never had access to trustworthy information about it.

Tibetan Independence or the Middle Way?
Not Our Proposition
People often ask whether we support Tibetan independence or the Middle Way, and our answer is that we take no position: Tibet’s political future is for Tibetans to decide, not for us to determine. The Chinese government tolerates neither path; our colleague Tara Zhang Yadi never advocated independence, yet the Chinese authorities still charged her with “separatism.” That is why we focus on what must come first: giving Chinese-speaking people access to reliable information about Tibet.
Our Story
We are a group of Chinese-speaking youth activists deeply passionate about Tibetan culture and committed to uncovering and sharing Tibet's hidden history and truths. We are Chinese-speaking advocates, students, Tibetans, non-Tibetans, writers, political prisoners, journalists, and activists.
Our Mission
Our mission is to foster a deeper understanding of Tibetan culture within Chinese-speaking communities, challenge and deconstruct Han chauvinism, and address ethnic conflicts and prejudice. We advocate for transitional justice and reconciliation to create greater harmony and equity in addressing ethnic issues.
